2 wholegrain crispbread
1 tsp reduced-salt margarine
½ tsp Vegemite
2 slices reduced-fat cheese

Savvy swaps

You can swap:

Crispbread
Wholegrain crackers
Crispbread
Bread
Cheese
Avocado

Tips

  • Use the Health Star Rating to choose the healthiest brand of crispbread. The more stars the healthier it is.
  • Cheese provides calcium. Calcium is needed for healthy bones and teeth.
  • Vegemite provides sodium so use sparingly.

  • Store crispbread in an airtight container.

  • Buying block cheese and slicing it yourself will be cheaper than buying pre-sliced cheese.
  • Compare prices per 100g to get the best value for money. This information is on the supermarket price tag. Buying a larger jar of vegemite or block of cheese can be better value for money.
  • Making your own crispbread and cheese is much cheaper than buying cheese and cracker snack packs.

Method

Step 1
Spread the crispbread with the margarine and a small amount of vegemite.

Step 2
Top the crispbread with a slice of cheese.

Serving suggestion: add extra toppings like tomato, avocado or sliced boiled egg.

Food safety tip: if you are packing for lunch, cheese needs to be kept cold so pack an ice brick.
